I tried to post this last night, but something wouldn't work.. so this is actually from October 26th...
Do you ever just stop and notice the beauty around you? I simply can't help but marvel at God's great creation here... I love autumn out here. In the city it's so easy to gloss over God's hand in all this, because you're surrounded by man made stuff... but here you can't ignore it at all. Ever seen Dead Poets Society? (yes, i'm using it again... I like it, ok?) This school looks like theirs... big brick buildings with ivy crawling all over it, tall tall trees releasing their flaming leaves... it's Gorgeous, with a capital G.
I was reading something from my journal that I wrote in August, and it just stuck out to me, so I figured I'd throw it in here. As relevant as it was for my life then, it's even more so now, I think.
"But God, I give my heart to You, because You'll NEVER drop it. I leave You to entrust it to whom You will. But let him have gentle hands, whoever he is. My heart cracks and breaks easily, I fear." -Sigh-
I am seeing more and more how girls base their self image on how they think guys perceive them. This especially difficult for girls like me who have never been pursued by a guy before. It's a terrible terrible cycle, I know, but one that's increasingly difficult to interrupt. It's beyond difficult to feel beautiful, to feel loved, cherished, protected, feminine... when there's no one there to make you feel that way. And that is so much of what women want in a man. To be loved and cherished, to have someone just dying to take care of you and your needs, to have someone you can joyfully submit to, someone who is a great and loving father. Sound familiar? This is what God is to us, this and so much more. Marriage is such a good illustration of how our relationship with Christ ought to be. This ache and hunger we have for relationship here on earth is really just a toned down version of what our hunger and ache to know God intimately should be. And so we fight on, the Bride of Christ.
I don't have much more to say... so I figured I'd put up a few poems that I have written in the last couple of weeks.

Fade Away

Leaves float delicately in
Wind tossing
Patterns without design
Reminiscent of things
Passing, things dying.
Fade away.

Do they come
Yet again hope?
Or are they silver spectres
Transparent and elusive
Reaching chilling
Fingering our tumbled
Hearts?
Fade away.

Sweet fragrance of
Time turned counterclock
Wise sayings from
Sage knowledge-bearers
Echo tenuously inthe
Shadows of the cobwebbed
Mind-their-experience.
Fade away.

(untitled)

Lost in silent speculative awe
Your smile an effect of mine
How I love to see you smile,
And if mine brings out yours
Why, I'll never pull the corners of
My mouth down.

Can I move you?
As you move me?
Or do these distant traces of joy
Capture my heart alone?

Alone adrift on a crippled raft
In this undulating seat of turmoil
And yet, strangely, peace.
I smile, and then you smile
And this raft is shoved back
Into the whirlpool of these crazy
Feelings.

Haha, ok, so, I just have to tell y'all that my roommate Sarah read my blog from the other night and flipped out. She was like, "You were in a state of emotional turmoil, and I was sitting here watching a video of the musical Chorus Line?!?!" So, didn't mean to make anyone worried. Those of you who know what's goin down... well, you know it's not at all a big deal. Not freak anyone out, haha. I was more illustrating the point that little things that go wrong can just serve to show you how bad something really bad could upset your life. That was all. No biggie.
So, I have to plug one of my new favorite bands... If y'all haven't heard of Jacob's Well... PLEASE check out their site and take a listen. Really good stuff... www.wellwatermusic.com . They're kind of acoustic, with some great worship songs. And guess where they're from?!?! Seattle!!!!! So, even though they're not real well known round these here parts yet, with my help, they'll soon become famous on the campus of Western Washington University. Heheh. I'm looking into getting them up here to Stuart's, which would be awesome if that works out.
Last night I really wanted to spend time with God, just writing journal entries, poetry, songs... but I had so much homework. And most of the time I did spend with Him ended up in prayer for other people. Oh well. It was good, I need to make sure I'm setting aside time like that to pray for the people I say I'm going to pray for. There's just so many people in need of prayer now.
You know that feeling of pain when you see other people in pain? Like when you're watching a movie, and the guy gets his arm cut off or something, and you jump back? Or, say, like in Braveheart, during the torture scene; I just cringe. Why is that? I myself am not really being affected by torture. But that's what I feel when I find out a sister or brother is hurting. I just can't help but want to cry and dig my nails into the palms of my hands. Especially when it seems so wrong for them to be hurting. Does that even make sense? I don't know. I don't know why it hurts me so bad to see others hurt. But it makes Galatians 6:2 very real to me.
Probably more later on today... or tomorrow...

Although I can't say why, I'm afraid I'm now in a state of emotional turmoil. Wish I could go into details about it, but because of the delicate nature of some of the information, simply can't.
Isn't it funny how life can be so simple, things going smoothly (or so they seem) when all of a sudden, you hear one little piece of news, and your blissful world of sweet ignorance is shattered? Even if it's only for a short amount of time, it's devastating to see how easily one's world can be torn apart.
Not that my world is in any way torn apart. Hehe, no way. But even being slightly shaken up is startling to see how easily it would be for your life to be torn apart. Fortunately for us, God is sovereign and in control. What would I do if He wasn't? What if I was able to truly ruin my life and God could do nothing about it? What kind of God would He be? Certainly not the omnipotent Creator and Master we know Him to be.
But on the flip side, He is not JUST a creator and master. Oh no, how much more than that He is. He is Best Friend, Merciful Father, and Perfect Lover. All of Him is sooo much more than enough to satisfy me.
So why this constant craving after more? More and more and more. I keep finding myself spinning into that silly cycle, forgetting that the more and more and more of this world can never fill this crater-sized hole inside of me. It is all rubbish. That crater sized hole can be filled only by my Jesus.
So tonight while I was worshipping at the Inn, I realized all of this. I truly need to surrender all to Him who gives me breath. I keep clutching it back in my little hand, trying to keep God from prying my fingers open. But he never will pry them open. No one is forced into submission.
I know this seems contradictory to Him being sovereign, but in some strange way, I know in my heart of hearts that they fit. We just can't see how quite yet. The puzzle isn't finished. I can't see the big picture at all. But these little glimpses I get of the finished product, of how I will look when Christ has sanctified me and made me perfect, not just in His sight, but in the eyes of all creation, that is when I yearn all the more for His return.
Anyways... just a few lil ol' speculations from my heart tonight. Focusing on Him is bringing the turmoil level down a bit.
Thanks for reading.

Well, here it is folks, my very own blog on which to speculate and ponder... I have been wondering for days and months and weeks about whether I was actually computer literate enough to make this work: so far, so good.
I don't know if I'll ever have any visitors, but even if I don't, it will be a place where I can come and ramble and speculate without feeling guilty by posting randomness on my favorite website of all time: Caedmonscall.net (and, particularly, the Rumor Board).
I thougth about naming this Say Jay's Shibboleths. "Shibboleth?" you are probably wondering... it seemed like such a good word to describe the oddity that flows out of my brain every once in a while. Now, if you're still curious enough to care, here's Merriam-Webster's definition of "shibboleth:"

"A word or saying used by adherents of a party, sect, or belief, and usually regarded by others as empty of real meaning."

So often my thoughts relate back to God and the way He works, and they would seem meaningless to many. But meaningless, they are not. :-) I just liked the sound of Say Jay's Speculations better. Sounds like a kind of popsicle you might buy from the ice cream man...

You know what's funny about the internet? You can get closer to someone in 4 days, or even 2, than you can in a year with some people in real life. It is so easy to open up and be yourself, and I think it's because the risk factor seems so low. But recently I realized that the risk factor has leapt up for me: if I lose any of my online friends, it would be fairly devastating. The way the folks from .net have impacted my life for Jesus. Fellowship, even online, across the country, or on the phone is so important. And these, my friends, are constants. What a blessing it is to me to know there are people praying for me that live on the other side of the continent. People that I've never even met, but who are my true sisters and brothers in a way that no one without Christ could ever understand.
Ahh, and since I love poetry, I might be splashing mine here and there every once in a while. But I was watching "Dead Poets Society" the other day, and Robin Williams' character, Mr. Keating, made a comment that really stuck in my head, so I thought I would copy it out here for you...

"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race and the human race is filled with passion... poetry, beauty, romance, love: these are what we stay alive for..."
Anyways, just a neat reminder of parts of the reason I write anything ever at all...
